Week 2 - Learning task 3

Backward Design

I have never heard of backward design before, and it was interesting to learn about this concept.
Backward design is when the teacher sets the goals and outcomes for the students before creating
the actual lesson plans. After the instructor decides what she wants from the students as the long term
goal she can then go ahead and design her assessments and teaching method. In traditional approaches to curriculum design the teacher decides the content according to standards and then goes ahead to prepare lesson plans weekly followed by assessments and end results. In backward design the teacher has a clear understanding of where she wants her students to end up and designs her classroom and lessons accordingly.
